Helene Magdelain

I am 40 years old and have been living abroad for over ten years. Through my experiences in several countries, I have built a career as a long-term expatriate, which has given me a practical understanding of the realities, challenges, and expectations of French people living outside of France.

As an active member of the French community, I have been actively involved with Work in the City since my arrival in Johannesburg in 2023. Through this organization, I work to build connections, support career development, and foster dialogue, particularly among accompanying spouses. This hands-on experience has shown me just how essential the French-speaking community network is for integration and personal and professional fulfillment.

Over the years, and as a mother of four myself, I have developed a particular sensitivity to the issues facing French citizens living abroad: education, entering the workforce, access to information, community life, and adapting to environments that can sometimes be challenging!

I am currently an independent consultant specializing in project management with environmental and social impact, which allows me to make a tangible contribution to meaningful initiatives.
